Tsurenko grabs a much needed title at the Mexican Open.

The Ukrainian professional tennis player is the current world No. 41. She has seen both ups and downs to start 2017 and the win comes at the right time for the young player.

In her previous two tournaments, Tsurenko saw early exits. At the 2017 Australian Open, she fell to top seeded player Angelique Kerber in her opening match. She then moved into action at Dubai where she again fell in her opening match, losing to Peng Shuai.

Winning the title in Acapulco proves that Tsurenko is someone to continue watching in 2017. She now has three career WTA singles titles. Tsurenko defeated a number of seeded players during her run at Acapulco. Coming in as the No. 7 seed, the Ukrainian tennis player defeated the No. 1, 2, and 3 seeded players to reach glory.

Mladenovic, who is playing well in 2017, won a title earlier in the year at St. Petersburg. As the current world No. 26, she will no doubt continue to be someone to watch throughout the year. Lesia Tsurenko must now take advantage of the momentum from her title win in Acapulco. Stay tuned to see how the Ukrainian fares throughout the remainder of the 2017 WTA Tour.
