24-year-old Jack Sock is coming off of his best Australian Open to date. The young American tennis player advanced to the third round, losing to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in four sets. Tsonga would go on to advance deep into the tournament, losing to Wawrinka in a quarterfinals match.
Sock, however, showed that he can hang with the best in the sport.
He is continuing to show promise this week at the Davis Cup. Ranked No. 20 in the world, he headlines the American team. Isner is the world No. 23, Sam Querrey world No. 27, and Steve Johnson No. 31.
Sock defeated his singles opponent, Marco Chiundinelli, in straight sets. He won the match 6-4, 6-3, 6-1. Isner would also go on to win his match in four sets, giving the American team a 2-0 lead over the Swiss.
The Americans got the start they were looking for and plan to continue their dominance over the Swiss. Team USA has won three of the four previous meetings with the Swiss. This year’s meeting will not be any easier for Switzerland without two of the world’s top players in Federer and Wawrinka.
