Andre Agassi tips Novak Djokovic to dominate 2015

Former tennis great Andre Agassi has ventured into the minefield of predictions as the 2014 season comes to a close, sharing his view on who will dominate men’s tennis in the coming years. The American legend, who himself won 8 Grand Slam titles in a glorious career, has firmly backed Novak Djokovic to head up the rankings for the coming years.

Whilst not being the most bold prediction that we are likely to hear from a former pro in the coming weeks, it is a measure of the belief at the top of the tennis community that Djokovic can extend his spell of dominance over the other top guys for a further few years. The man from Serbia ended the year as World Number 1 and showed no sign of any diminished motivation or focus following the birth of his first child.

"“Novak Djokovic is ready to keep on dominating tennis for one more year or two. I see Novak as World No. 1 both in 2015 and 2016.” – Andre Agassi speaking to Tennis World USA."

Still Plenty of Records to Chase

The priority of Djokovic heading into 2015 will be to maintain his position at the top of the rankings, but there are a number of other goals he will target this year. Completing a career Grand Slam by winning the French Open would represent one of his greatest achievements and he has not hidden the fact that this is something that he is focussed on accomplishing.

In a similar way, winning the Cincinnati Masters would complete the full set of Masters Series titles and this seems like an achievement that Djokovic would also value highly. His consistency over reason years has been astonishing and he has emerged in an era dominated by Federer and Nadal as a true champions who is pushing his own cause to be considered a great.

Greatest of All Time Debate

In the back of his and his fans mind must be the possibility of entering the Greatest of All Time debate. With 7 Grand Slams to his name already, you could argue at 27 years old he still has five more years to realistically challenge for the majors. That is 20 more chances to add to his already impressive tally, including 5 more Australian Open’s, where he has a great history.

More from Novak Djokovic

Djokovic currently sits at tied 13th on the all-time list of Grand Slam winners, but averaging 2 Grand Slam titles for the next 5 years would see him overtake Nadal with 14 and match Federer on 17. It is wildly speculative but not impossible by any means. We are talking about a player who went on a 43-match win streak in the most competitive era of men’s tennis in history.
