WTA Tennis Power Rankings: Jan. 5, 2015

Serena Williams won her 18th Grand Slam in New York last year to reiterate her current dominance over the rest of the WTA field. If Serena is in her own class, Maria Sharapova has separated herself in the second tier. This season could be more of the same, but youngsters Eugenie Bouchard and Simona Halep have high aspirations, not to mention the return to form of Victoria Azarenka. It looks to be a great 2015 on the WTA.

(Note: Power Rankings are different than the WTA Rankings. WTA Rankings reflect a players performance over the past 52 weeks while the Power Rankings combine the player’s performance and potential at a given moment during the season.)

Petkovic thrusted herself back up the rankings in 2014 with three WTA titles. Her season was limpimg to the finish until she won the Sofia Tournament (granted without the best players entered). In 2014, she lost in the first round in Melbourne after missing the tournament the previous two years.
