Results – Group Stage
Sunday 4 January
The opening Sunday of the Hopman Cup began with action from Group A, with the Czech Republic side upsetting a strong albeit youthful Canadian side, with the tie going to the decisive mixed doubles. The upset was on the cards after Safarova clinically beat Boucahrd in the opening rubber.

The night match represented the first action in Group B for Poland and Australia and the home team struggled to give their fans anything to cheer in Perth, going down without winning match against a strong looking Polish side who were firing on all cylinders.
Both singles went to Poland, who were the favourite going into each rubber. Australian Matt Ebden then withdrew from the mixed doubles, gifting Poland the third and final win. A doubles pro-set was played in placed of the mixed doubles although did not count toward the score.

Monday 5 January
Day two of the Hopman Cup was played in extreme heat as the strongly favoured USA team put Italy to the sword, winning the tie convincingly and setting the tone for their tournament. Serena Williams looked out of sorts initially, bizarrely seeing her fortunes turn around after an Espresso during the match.
Isner’s singles victory and the mixed doubles were also hard fought but ultimately gave USA a perfect start, although the Italy team will continue to fight for their life in the competition.

Great Britain edged a thoroughly entertaining match against France on Monday night, with the match being decided on a super tie-break in the mixed doubles rubber. Andy Murray had put Great Britain charge, but Alize Cornet levelled proceedings with similar ease.

The mixed doubles was hugely entertaining for spectators as all four players had the crowd on their feet at certain points. Cornet managed to ace Murray during the second set and was unable to hide her joy at the accomplishment, raising her arms in delight.
Murray then returned the favour with an ace down the tee to Cornet, responding by flinging his arms in the air with delight. There were some tremendous points and it made for great entertainment, with Great Britain holding their nerve at the end to win the tie.
