Nick Kyrgios surges into Top 50, reaches career high 35
Rising Australian star Nick Kyrgios has continued his meteoric rise in the tennis world, reaching a career high of number 35 in the world in the latest rankings. Whilst he looked to be a little out of his depth in his straight sets defeat to Andy Murray in the quarter finals of the Australian Open, it is clear the Kyrgios possesses extraordinary natural talent and a love of the big occasion.
Kyrgios only has one main tour win to his name outside of the Grand Slams
Charting the rise of Kyrgios is a quick task as the 19 year old Australian has only played a handful of tournaments on the main ATP circuit. His ranking of 35 is made even more incredible by the fact that he only has one main tour win to his name outside of the Grand Slams, gaining the majority of his 1135 points from the majors.
Looking at a breakdown of his ranking points is certainly a cause for further optimism, as if there isn’t already enough hype around the teenager. Heading into the rest of 2015, he is defending very few points and with a ranking of 35 he will gain direct entry into every tournament that he should choose to enter barring some very unusual circumstances.

26.05.2014 | Roland Garros | R128 | 0 | 08.06.2015 |
Even if he is unable to add completely defend his quarter final showing at Wimbledon, he will gain these 360 points and more playing is Masters 1000 events as well as 500 and 250 events, where, with his confidence and ability you would not be surprised to see him winning.
One glance at his record in Challenger events during 2014 paints a scarily accurate picture of Kyrgios and the way he plays. On the three occasions that he won his first match, he went on to win the tournament. He certainly has the pedigree from the big time and if he continues his form he will break into the Top 20 by the end of the year.
Date | Tournament | Round | Points | Drop Date |

It would be very easy to get carried away with Kyrgios and his bravado, but his will know that consistency will ultimately be the key to securing a high ranking. He must learn to grind out results on smaller courts with only a handful of spectators in the crowd.
A feature of many players in the Top 10 are that they pick up points at almost every tournament they attend. David Ferrer is the perfect example of a player who applies himself week in week out and is shown the rewards in his ranking, which has been consistently high for almost a decade.
The sky is no doubt the limit for Kyrgios, who is entering the tennis world at arguably the best time possible. He will be entering his peak years as a tennis professional as the Big Four enter the twilight of theirs and one things if for sure, if he can learn from how they have managed their careers, he himself will have a memorable one too.
