WTA Kuala Lumpur: Final Prediction- Wozniacki vs Dulgheru
(Rank/Seed)
(5/1) Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark will face (94/-) Alexandra Dulgheru of Romania in the final of the BMW Malaysian Open, an International level event held on hard courts in Kuala Lumpur. Who do I think will win?
Experience: Caroline has won 22 of her 38 career finals to date, including many tournaments far bigger than this and last won a title in Istanbul, July 2014. Alexandra has a perfect record in finals, but has only won 2 events. These both came on the memorably bad clay courts at the now defunct event in Warsaw, last held when Alexandra won in 2010. Advantage: Wozniacki
Recent Form: Caroline is having a great year, having already made a final in Auckland, the semis in Dubai and the quarters in Doha. For Alexandra, things have only just got going. Last week, she qualified into Doha, winning 4 matches ahead of a retirement against Caroline in the 2nd round. So, she’s certainly feeling good at the moment. Still…Advantage: Wozniacki
Route Through: Caroline has shown her class this week as the only top 20 player in the field, losing only 17 games in 4 matches. (81/-) Carina Witthoft was her highest ranked opponent this week, whom she beat in the quarters whilst (122/-) Lin Zhu has the honour of pushing Caroline the closest thus far, taking 5 games in the 2nd round! Alexandra has had a much tougher draw, both in terms of her opponents and the length of her matches. Demonstrating her new found confidence, she’s upset big hitters (28/2) Sabine Lisicki 64 75 in the 1st round, (65/8) Julia Goerges 76(5) 75 in the quarters and (52/4) Jarmila Gajdosova 57 75 76(4) in the semis! She must be exhausted! Advantage: Wozniacki

Past Results in Kuala Lumpur: There couldn’t be more difference between Caroline’s result this year and 2013. Back then, (10/1) Caroline was still struggling to find her feet after falling from the number one spot a year or so earlier and was beaten in the 1st round by (186/Qualifier) Qiang Wang, citing heat illness in contributing to her 26 76(1) 61 loss! This is Alexandra’s debut here. Advantage: Wozniacki
Head to Head: Caroline has won both of their previous meetings, including the 61 30 ret defeat in the 2nd round of Doha last week. Then, Alexandra was fatigued after having qualified. Here, I fear she’ll be fatigued once again after her many tough matches. The problem for Dulgheru is that she essentially plays the same as Caroline in looking to play the percentages and work the points. No one does that as well as Wozniacki. In a match which will undoubtedly be filled with lengthy baseline rallies, Dulgheru must look to attack off her stronger, flatter backhand side whenever she can. Still, I can’t see her breaking down the relatively fresh ‘wall’ that is Wozniacki. Advantage: Wozniacki
As you can see, I feel Caroline Wozniacki has the advantage in every department and I predict she will win in straight sets.
