R2: Borna Coric
R3: (8) David Ferrer
R4: Thanasi Kokkinakis
Possible path to title:
QF: (1) Djokovic
SF: (4) Murray
F: (2) Djokovic / (3) Nadal
Chance at Championship:
Tomic has had some great wins to gain the quarterfinal appearance. He set aside two youngsters that had the crowds on their side, a position Tomic recently held. Most impressively, Tomic defeated the feisty David Ferrer in two tight sets. Anyone who beats Ferrer has earned the win with gritty play and powerful shotmaking.
Tomic is ranked the lowest because of his first opponent. Beating Djokovic on hard courts has become about as hard as beating Nadal on clay. Djokovic has beaten Tomic all three times they have played. Even if the Australian pulls off the upset, he will likely face two more of the Big Four in order to win the title. Too much to ask.
