Federer will have been pleased to add to his points tally in the Race, knowing that skipping Miami would see a number of players in and around him pick up points. Interestingly he is still behind Swiss compatriot Stan Wawrinka, who is 3rd in the Race, reward for a very solid start to the new season.
Now that three months have passed in 2015, the Race rankings are beginning to take shape and they can give is a strong insight into who has stated the year in the best form and which up and comers are likely to improve their ranking come the winter.

2 | Andy Murray | GBR | 1820 |
3 | Stan Wawrinka | SUI | 1600 |
4 | Tomas Berdych | CZE | 1530 |
5 | Roger Federer | SUI | 1515 |

8 | Milos Raonic | CAN | 1090 |
9 | Rafael Nadal | ESP | 970 |
10 | Bernard Tomic | AUS | 755 |
Despite the questions surrounding Andy Murray from a mental perspective, he seems to be back to his best following an indifferent 2014. He will certainly be taking the positives of sitting in 2nd place in the Race and will look to Miami as a chance to increase the gap between him and the rest of the pack ahead of his least favourite; the clay court season.
Rafael Nadal is languishing down in 9th in the Race standings, which will be relatively unfamiliar to the Spaniard who is used to having a strong position even despite lengthy injury lay-offs. If there were debates as to whether Nadal was struggling, the Race answers this emphatically.
Race Rankings – 11 to 20
Place | Player | Nation | Points |
11 | Gilles Simon | FRA | 695 |
12 | Kevin Anderson | RSA | 665 |
13 | Viktor Troicki | SRB | 563 |

16 | Pablo Cuevas | URU | 540 |

18 | Ivo Karlovic | CRO | 505 |
19 | Gael Monfils | FRA | 490 |
20 | Richard Gasquet | FRA | 485 |
The remaining players making up the top 20 in the current Race standings are familiar faces when it comes to hovering around the top of the men’s game without really threatening to break through. Gilles Simon has been in the Top 10 before and his form at the start of 2015 suggests he could repeat this feat.
Many tennis fans will be interested to see Victor Troicki’s position in the Race, as a lot more can be taken from this when compared with his ranking, which is skewed as he missed a sizeable chunk of 2014. He clearly means business of the comeback trail.
Selected Others
Looking at the Race from an American perspective doesn’t make for the best reading so far this year and this is perhaps symptomatic of the struggle that tennis in America is enduring at this moment. Donald Young, Ryan Harrison and Steve Johnson all lead to way at 27th, 31st and 32nd respectively.
Tim Smyczek, who won a lot of fans at the Australian Open, is surprisingly 8 places above John Isner at 41st in the Race and whilst America have plenty of representation near to top of the game, fans would probably prefer would world class player over strength in depth but no real challenge for the big trophies.
