ATP Race Rankings: 30th March, Frenchmen flourish
There have been plenty of movers and shakers in the ATP Race Rankings as we enter the second week of the Miami Masters event, where plenty of points are still up for grabs. The winner of a Masters event is awarded 1000 points in the race and the rankings, which alone would catapult a player into the Top 10.
For a full run through of how the Race rankings are calculated and how they differ from the official ATP rankings, see here.
Race Rankings – 1 to 10
Place | Player | Nation | Points |
1 | Novak Djokovic | SRB | 3430 |
2 | Andy Murray | GBR | 1910 |
3 | Stan Wawrinka | SUI | 1645 |
4 | Tomas Berdych | CZE | 1620 |
5 | David Ferrer | ESP | 1520 |
6 | Roger Federer | SUI | 1515 |
7 | Kei Nishikori | JPN | 1215 |
8 | Milos Raonic | CAN | 1135 |
9 | Rafael Nadal | ESP | 1015 |
10 | Bernard Tomic | AUS | 800 |
Bernard Tomic went a long way to consolidating his impressive Top 10 place in the Race standings, although he has played a lot of tennis at the start of the year which can skew the standings a little. He will be ruing the missed opportunity in Miami, however, having squandered match points against Thomas Berdych in the third round.
Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray continue to set the pace at the top, with Djokovic staring at the possibility of having double the number of Race points as Murray in second place by the end of the week. If the two players win the matches they are expected to, they will meet in the final of Miami.
The season of Rafael Nadal continues to stutter, although he has an uncanny ability of picking up a load of points in the clay court season even if he isn’t at his best. It will be vital for the Spaniard to pick up a few thousand points in the coming months to avoid a drop in the rankings outside of the Top 4.
Race Rankings – 11 to 20
Place | Player | Nation | Points |
11 | Kevin Anderson | RSA | 755 |
12 | Gilles Simon | FRA | 740 |
13 | Viktor Troicki | SRB | 608 |
14 | Gael Monfils | FRA | 580 |
15 | Guillermo Garcia Lopez | ESP | 575 |
16 | Feliciano Lopez | ESP | 565 |
17 | Andreas Seppi | ITA | 550 |
18 | Pablo Cuevas | URU | 550 |
19 | Ivo Karlovic | CRO | 515 |
20 | Adrian Mannarino | FRA | 500 |
The start of 2015 has been a prosperous one for many French players and in Miami a number of them are still going strong. Adrian Mannarino pulled off the upset of Stan Wawrinka in the third round, which sees him rise into the Top 20 of the Race.
Gael Monfils has enjoyed similar fortunes and is the big mover of the week, rising 5 places up the Race standings and as he is still active in Miami, he could continue his ascension as the draw unfolds. Whilst Monfils has risen, nobody has suffered too much of a fall this week.
Selected Others
The win that sent shock waves around the tennis world also impacted the Race rankings in a big way, as Fernando Verdasco beat Nadal for the second consecutive time and in doing so rose 10 places up to 26th. Despite being near the end of his career, Verdasco has the game for the big occasion.
