ATP Race Rankings: 8th June, Wawrinka makes huge leap
As is the case every year, the French Open has had huge ramifications on the ATP Race standings. With the major events representing the best chance to gain rankings points, there was a lot at stake over the two weeks in Paris, where Stan Wawrinka eventually lifted the title.
Three men have really taken a stranglehold on the race and the standings correlate strongly with performance in two majors so far in Melbourne and Paris. The current Top 8 have also created some distance between themselves and the chasing pack over the last fortnight.
For a full run through of how the Race rankings are calculated and how they differ from the official ATP rankings, see here.
Race Rankings – 1 to 10
Place | Player | Nation | Points |
1 | Novak Djokovic | SRB | 7585 |
2 | Andy Murray | GBR | 4480 |
3 | Stan Wawrinka | SUI | 4230 |

8 | Rafael Nadal | ESP | 2560 |
9 | Milos Raonic | CAN | 1540 |
10 | Gael Monfils | FRA | 1255 |
Novak Djokovic has built such a commanding lead that he could skip the grass court season and still be at the head of the standings come August. Such is his competitive nature, however, that you can expect he will be desperate to win Wimbledon for the third time to make up for his French Open disappointment.
The story of Roland Garros lay with Stan Wawrinka, whose 2,000 point windfall has caused him to surge into third place in the rankings. He now has a 1,000 point gap over third place and will be hopeful of continuing his form and finishing the year inside the Top 4.
Solid French Open campaigns for the remainder of the Top 10 have seen them consolidate their positions, whilst Milos Raonic has suffered from having to withdraw due to injury. Gael Monfils squeaks into the Top 10, but how long he can stay there is anyone’s guess.

There were no real movers and shakers in the Top 20 aside from Jo Wilfried Tsonga, who was outside the Top 50 of the ATP Race before Roland Garros. His ranking was in a precarious position and the 720 points will have been more than welcome to the Frenchman.
Selected Others
The focus must go to the Australian men in this first half of the season as they seem to have kicked their country our of the post-Hewitt funk that they have been stuck in. Bernard Tomic leads the charge in 2015 in 18th place, whilst Nick Kyrgios is hot on his heels at 25th, handed an unlucky draw in Paris.
Thanasi Kokkinakis was also unfortunate in his draw but earned more than a few admirers for his attitude during his loss to Rafael Nadal. He sits at career high rankings in the ATP Race and the ATP Rankings themselves. All three men seem to be on the up and are guys to watch during Wimbledon.
