Simona Halep

A lot of tennis fans, this observer included, thought that Simona Halep would begin her assault on the pinnacle of the game in 2015, but so far it hasn’t quite worked out that way.

It hasn’t been a bad year for Halep by any means, certainly not emulating the fall from grace of fellow up-and-comer Eugenie Bouchard, but she hasn’t quite kicked on in the way many assumed she might.

The Romanian has only achieved a solitary quarter-final place in the first two Grand Slams of the year, and while she has fared well in the Masters tournaments, it is how you cope in the major events that really counts.

It also remains to be seen whether grass is one of her favoured surfaces.

Verdict – Very Unlikely To Win Her First Slam
