Will Bacsinszky continue to impress?

Take a bow, Timea Bacsinszky, for providing the feel good story of the 2015 tennis season.

Once an average player struggling to forge her way into the WTA top 30, Bacsinszky has risen above obstacles including a demanding father and an injury that saw her working in hospitality for 2 years to work her way to the precipice of the world’s top ten.

And she’s done it by posting some exceptional results this year, including two titles in Mexico and a finals appearance in Shenzhen.

But it’s been the grand slams at which Bacsinszky has truly shone this year. After an unprecedented trip to the French Open semifinal, the Swiss hit her way to the final 8 on her worst surface at Wimbledon.

It’s common for players to travel one of two ways after such impressive results: they either elevate their game to further cement their place in the game’s elite, or they succumb to the pressure of garnering notoriety (ala Genie Bouchard).

If she can continue to venture deep into tournament draws, it will be fascinating to see how much damage Bacsinszky can do at the Premier events and in New York.

Given her form, a finals run in Cincinnati or Canada isn’t out of the question. And if she can accomplish that, anything is possible in New York.
