Mouthwatering Matchups We Want to See at the Rogers Cup

When the draw for this week’s Rogers Cup was released on the weekend, attention quickly turned not only to where the seeds and potential sleepers were situated, but to the range of potential exciting matchups that could be realised over the next week. Fans of the WTA are particularly salivating over the probable second round meeting of grand slam champions Victoria Azarenka and Petra Kvitova (more on that on the next slide).

But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Want a rematch of the Indian Wells women’s final between Jelena Jankovic and Simona Halep? You may only have to wait until the second round of this tournament.

How about Serena Williams and the woman who claims that she can challenge Serena this Summer, Samantha Stosur? They’re scheduled for a quarterfinal meeting.

Dwindling Grigor Dimitrov and numero uno Novak Djokovic? That’s the third round. Fading Canadian Eugenie Bouchard and injured Caroline Wozniacki? Second round.

And did you know that big hitters Petra Kvitova and Garbine Muguruza have never met on court? Well, they’re scheduled to meet in the quarterfinals.
