I considered putting Federer fourth and Wawrinka third.

As far as why I put Federer third, it is because of the strength of his last two majors of 2015. He went to the finals at Wimbledon and the U.S. Open, losing in four sets to Novak Djokovic twice.  It has, however, been a long time since Federer has graced us with hs presence in the Australian Open final.

Sure, he hasn’t won a trophy in Australia or even been to the final since his 2010 defeat of Andy Murray.

Sure, he got drummed out in the third round by Andreas Seppi. Plus, he lost the final in Brisbane recently to Milos Raonic, a match that I do not believe he should have lost.

That being said, I definitely think that Federer could turn some heads this Australian Open. He’s proven time and time again that we should not count him out.

I considered putting Federer higher on the list than this, but I chose not to because I think that Murray has shown a better ability to win in Australia. We’ll see, though.

The fact that he is seeded third and could face Novak Djokovic in the semifinals is not favorable for him, but he would be good to go if he could somehow solve Djokovic.
