Serena Williams has yet to win a title this season.  Is that concerning?

Only a very little bit.  Let’s not forget, she’s only played in three tournaments and has reached the final in two of them. Clearly, she’s still playing at an extremely high level.  In Australia, she lost the final to Angelique Kerber in a tight three-setter where Kerber played exceptional tennis.  Next, she lost to Victoria Azarenka in the final at Indian Wells.  Azarenka had beaten her several times in the past but not since 2013.   In Miami, Williams lost in the fourth round to Svetlana Kuznetsova.  I hate to say these are matches she should win because she’s 34 and she can’t be expected to win every title.  But I would probably feel better about her chances going forward if she had won one of these tournaments.

That being said, I fully expect her to end up winning one  or even two of the three remaining majors this season. But it doesn’t look like it’s going to be easy for Williams to do so.  She’s struggled some in the big matches this season. But she should still be viewed as the undisputed best player on the women’s tour.  Even if she doesn’t look as unbeatable as she was in 2015.
