Caroline Wozniacki: Tennis Star is Calm, Cool, Cerebral
By Harry Floyd
Caroline Wozniacki is surging in women’s tennis. The Danish star took time away from a fantastic 2016 season to reflect on her career and the future. She tells her younger self that… “Dad was right. Tennis was the way to go.”
Caroline Wozniacki wrote a letter to her younger self. Amidst a successful 2016 season, the former world number 1 sat down to reflect on her childhood, career, and the future.
Wozniacki is in rare form, appearing to be her classic self on the court since the US Open. Back in the top 20 WTA rankings, Wozniacki is without a doubt a player to watch in 2017. In her letter to her younger self, the 26-year-old stresses the importance of family, relationships, experiences both good and bad, and embracing the moment while planning for the future.
Savor each moment — not just the victories, but also the experiences, the relationships, the emotions.
Tennis will not last forever. It appears that the former number 1 is making the most of her life in the sport. She understands that she is lucky, has worked hard, and is grateful for everyone who has helped her achieve the success she’s had.
The cerebral Wozniacki revealed a side of her that is promising for life after tennis. She is primed to be an ambassador for the sport, mentoring young players and imparting the lessons that she has learned along the way.
The Danish star tells her younger self, “When times get tough, look to your family for support. They will always be there for you.” A support system is critical for an athlete in any sport, especially tennis. The pressure placed on an individual player in tennis is immense and Wozniacki acknowledged the support system that made her the woman she is today.

Wozniacki tells her younger self not to buy any random expensive things, but… allows herself one single indulgence. “One red Ferrari. Not six… You’ve worked exceptionally hard. You can give yourself that present. Then go back to being frugal again for a while.”
The tennis world loves to see the personal side of their favorite players. Wozniacki is a clear fan favorite and most likely always will be.
As her career continues, she will remember one piece of advice to herself. “I’m here to tell you to breathe, young Caroline. Breathe.” The Danish tennis star will breathe in many more great moments throughout her career.
Look for Wozniacki to rise in the WTA rankings in 2017. A phenomenal second half of the 2016 season provides her with plenty of momentum moving forward.
