Novak Djokovic is one of the greatest in the sport of tennis. In late 2016, Andy Murray overtook the Serbian tennis superstar for the ATP world number 1 ranking.

The ATP World Tour Finals championship match was the 5th time that Djokovic and Murray met during the 2016 season. The meeting was almost storybook, capping off the 2016 men’s tennis season with a match between the sport’s top two players. It would be the 35th all-time meeting between the top tennis players.
2016 saw Djokovic and Murray facing off in Grand Slam meetings and during crucial midseason matches. Both would hold the world number 1 ranking at different points throughout 2016.
Murray’s surge throughout the year earned him an Olympics gold in men’s singles and brought him to the top of the ATP rankings.
