Temperatures at the Australian Open are known to exceed 100 degrees. Players must be in top condition, prepared to face any conditions thrown at them.
Williams is no stranger to Melbourne Park.
She is a 6-time winner at the major tournament, which includes her most recent title in 2015. Last season, German tennis star Kerber defeated Williams in the women’s singles finals match 6–4, 3–6, 6–4. Williams looks to avenge her loss next month.
The 2017 Australian Open takes place from January 16 – 29.
The tournament at Melbourne is critical for Serena Williams. She ended her 2016 WTA Tour early, first withdrawing from several tournaments due to injury and then ultimately pulling out of the season-ending WTA Finals tournament. The 2017 Australian Open is a test of will for the American superstar.
She will enter the tournament among the favorites to win. Her career record at Melbourne Park speaks for itself, but the real issue is whether or not she is healthy enough to go deep into the major tournament.
The tennis world can be optimistic that she is ready to go for Australia after seeing Williams workout and and do interviews in the offseason. Every major tournament is also an important checkpoint for Serena Williams as she looks to add to her 22 Grand Slam singles titles.
