Dominic Thiem: new life, chances against Simon at Rotterdam
By Harry Floyd
Dominic Thiem came into the Rotterdam Open after a rocky start to 2017. The world No. 8 has a chance to make up ground this week.
Dominic Thiem advanced past Alexander Zverev at the Rotterdam Open.
Zverev, the young German tennis player and a rising star in the sport, took the first set against Thiem. He could not, however, hang on. Thiem won the match 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Thiem was the top seeded player at the Sofia Open last week where he was upset in his first round match against Nikoloz Basilashvili. The Austrian tennis player is now looking ahead to his upcoming match in Rotterdam.
Thiem is the No. 2 seeded player at Rotterdam.
He faces Gilles Simon, who he has a 3-2 career head-to-head record against. Currently, Thiem is the world No. 8 player and Simon the world No. 24. They last faced one another in 2016, where Thiem won a hard fought three-set victory in Metz, France.
The meeting versus Simon is a chance for Thiem to continue getting back on track in 2017.
With the other top seeded players at Rotterdam still alive, the next round of play will determine a lot for the Austrian’s chances. Dominic Thiem is an intense player on court and his endurance will play a factor in his match with Simon. Seeing several close losses earlier in 2017, he would serve himself best to find his rhythm early in the match.
All of the top five seeded players in Rotterdam are in action tomorrow.
