Andy Murray proves No. 1 status so far in Dubai Tennis Championships

Andy Murray is in action this week at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships. The world No.1 is out to prove his top ranking.

The world No. 1 defeats Malek Jaziri in straight sets, winning 6-4, 6-1. He cruised to victory, asserting his dominance on the court over the Tunisian tennis player. Jaziri is the world No. 51 in men’s singles tennis.

Murray is the current world No. 1 and has not played in competitive singles action since his fourth round exit from the Australian Open.
Next for Murray was Guillermo Garcia Lopez.
The veteran Spanish tennis player has reached as high as the world No. 23 ranking in his career. While he hasn’t played Murray since 2012, he does have the most recent win in their head-to-head matches. Murray is 2-1 in his career over Garcia Lopez.
The world No. 1 went to work against the Spanish professional tennis player. Murray dominated the majority of the match, especially as they entered the second set. Murray defeated Garcia Lopez in straight sets, winning 6-2, 6-0.
Next up for Andy Murray is German tennis player Philipp Kohlschreiber. After an early upset over eighth seeded player Gilles Muller, the German tennis player has reached a third round meeting with the world No. 1. Look for the Scot to continue his stellar play at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.
World No. 2 Novak Djokovic is also in action this week elsewhere at the Mexican Open. He is looking to close the gap between he and Murray in the rankings.
