Andy Murray outlasts Kohlschreiber in historic tie-break battle

Andy Murray neared defeat as he engaged Philipp Kohlschreiber in a historic tie-break standoff. The world No. 1 outlasts the German tennis player in Dubai.
Andy Murray was on the edge of defeat in his quarterfinals match.
He engaged Philipp Kohlschreiber in a historic tie-break battle which ended with Murray taking the second set of the match. Murray is the top-seeded player at this week’s Dubai Tennis Championships.

Murray dropped a hard fought first set to the German tennis player. He rallied in the second, but could not easily finish off Kohlschreiber. The result was a 31-minute tie-break session between the two tennis players.
It took the world No. 1 eight set points to win the second set. In total, the two tennis players racked up 38 points in their tie-break battle. Murray utilized the momentum of the second set victory, carrying it into a dominant third set.
Murray defeats Kohlschreiber 6-7 (4-7) 7-6 (20-18) 6-1.
The win keeps the Scot’s title hopes alive at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships. Earlier in the day, French tennis player and fourth seeded Gael Monfils was upset by Fernando Verdasco. Still to play is Lucas Pouille and Evgeny Donskoy. Australian Open champion, Roger Federer, was upset earlier in the week by Donskoy. The young Russian tennis player is playing some of his best tennis this week in Dubai.
The tournament is Murray’s first since his fourth round exit from the 2017 Australian Open. With three matches under his belt in Dubai, Andy Murray hopes to continue on the road to glory at the Dubai Tennis Champions.
