Andy Murray did exactly what he set out to at the 2017 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships. The world No. 1 takes home the title after a strong final.

Andy Murray defeats Fernando Verdasco to win the title in Dubai.

The world No. 1 wins the finals match, 6-3, 6-2. Murray dropped just a single set during his week at the Dubai Tennis Championships.

The title comes at a much needed time for Murray. Despite reaching the Qatar Open finals to start the year, the world No. 1 needed to regain his momentum after his fourth round upset at Melbourne Park.

Murray lost the finals at Qatar to rival Novak Djokovic and then was upset by Mischa Zverev at the Australian Open. Dubai became a chance at redemption for the world No. 1.

Reaching the finals at also Dubai makes Verdasco the current world No. 29 in men’s singles tennis. He is back in the top 30, moving up six positions after the finals appearance. Verdasco is a former world No. 7 and has 7 career ATP singles titles.

Next up, Murray eyes action at Indian Wells.

The world No. 1 joins all of the best in men’s singles tournament at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, California. He will have to contend with Djokovic, who is the three-time defending champion at the tournament. Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer have all largely dominated Indian Wells over the last decade.
