Andy Murray is the current world No. 1 in men’s singles tennis. Here’s how he’s fared through March on the 2017 ATP World Tour.

Andy Murray remains the world No. 1 in men’s singles tennis.

The Scot started his 2017 ATP World Tour at the Qatar Open in early January. Putting on a display fit for only the best in tennis, Murray cruised into a finals match at the tournament.

In Doha, Murray met the defending champion and world No. 2 Novak Djokovic.

The match would prove to be his most difficult yet at the Qatar Open. Djokovic jumped to an early lead taking the first set before Murray rebounded with a hard fought second set.

Djokovic would emerge victorious in Doha. Still, Murray’s strong performance that week was an impressive start to the 2017 season.

Next up for Murray was the first Grand Slam of the year at Melbourne Park. Murray, who has not won the Australian Open yet, is a five-time finalist at the major tournament. Coming into Melbourne Park as the world No. 1 put the Scot in a position to earn his first title there.

Without dropping a single set, Murray entered a fourth round match with Mischa Zverev. The German tennis player did the impossible against the world No. 1. Shocking the sport, Zverev defeated Murray in four sets. The fourth round exit stunned both Murray and others.

Despite the tough loss at Melbourne Park, Murray took full advantage of the Dubai Tennis Championships. As the top seeded player, he was poised to make a run at the tournament and avenge his Australian Open performance. Murray found himself in the finals with Fernando Verdasco. There, Murray defeated Verdasco for the title, winning 6-3, 6-2.

As the world No. 1 withdrew from the Miami Open at the end of March, the Indian Wells Masters would be his final tournament in the month of March. Vasek Pospisil took on Murray in his opening round match. What would be the second biggest upset of the year against Murray, Pospisil defeated the world No. 1 in straight sets.

Andy Murray has seen ups and downs so far in 2017. He remains, however, the best in men’s singles tennis and has one title to his name so far this year. Look for Murray to remain on top and make a push during the middle of the tour.
