Murray gave Ramos-Vinolas his toughest match yet at Monte Carlo.

The Spanish tennis player had not dropped a single set until his first against Murray. Despite the early lead by the world No. 1, Ramos-Vinolas roared back with a 6-2 second set victory.

The third set gave Murray several chances to close out the match but the world No. 1 could not secure the victory. Ramos-Vinolas moves on and will face fifth seeded Marin Cilic in the quarterfinals.

Another shocking upset came to Stan Wawrinka. The world No. 3 fell to Pablo Cuevas in the round of 16 at Monte Carlo. With he and Andy Murray both out, the path is cleared for Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic among others. Nadal is the defending champion and a nine-time winner at Monte Carlo. Djokovic is in action on Thursday.

The upset to Murray is no reason to panic. With Monte Carlo being his first ATP tournament since suffering an elbow injury, the world No. 1 may need several weeks in order to gain back his on the court momentum.
