Nadal wins 6-1, 6-3.

The former world No. 1 dropped just a single set at the Monte-Carlo Masters. That single set came in his opening round match. Since the three set win over Kyle Edmund, Nadal cruised through the rest of the tournament.

In the semifinals, Nadal faced world No. 13 David Goffin. The Belgian tennis player has been hot as of late. After beating both Dominic Thiem and Novak Djokovic to reach a meeting with Nadal, Goffin had the chance to continue his string of impressive wins. Nadal broke his streak.

As the defending champion at the Monte-Carlo Masters, Nadal asserted himself in each of his later matches. While Ramos-Vinolas saw huge wins over the likes of Andy Murray, Marin Cilic, and Lucas Pouille, he could not stand up to Rafael Nadal.

The win is critical for Nadal. Not only does he make history at Monte Carlo, but winning his first title of 2017 puts him on the right track to continue rising in the rankings. After losing the Australian Open to Roger Federer, Nadal has been close to an ATP title on several occasions. He does exactly what the tennis world thought he would, winning at the start of the clay court season.
