There was never a doubt that the Slovak tennis player was in control of the match. Winning in straight sets, she takes the match 6-0, 6-4.
Bouchard put up a fight in the second set hoping to rebound. Her play, however, was not enough to conquer Cepelova. The win is huge for the 23-year-old Slovak tennis player.
Searching for her first ever WTA title, Istnabul is a major opportunity for Cepelova. In late March, the young tennis player surged at the 2017 Miami Open. In Miami, she won both of her qualifying matches. Then, Cepelova went on to win three matches at the tournament.
She has proven that she can play on the WTA’s bigger stages. Now, Jana Cepelova is a definite player to watch this week. Still to play is top seeded player Elina Svitolina. She squares off on Wednesday. Also in action Wednesday is second seeded Timea Babos. Stay tuned to see how the action unfolds at the Istanbul Open.
