Eugenie Bouchard speaks out regarding Maria Sharapova’s return to WTA action. The Russian tennis star is back after a fifteen month ban.
Eugenie Bouchard is speaking out on Maria Sharapova’s return.
"In an interview with TRT World, Bouchard refers to Sharapova as a “cheater.” She went on to say, “I don’t think a cheater in any sport should be allowed to play that sport again.”"

The young Canadian tennis player also shared her congratulations for Serena Williams who won the Australian Open while pregnant. Still, the Sharapova related comments have garnered far more attention.
Genie fell to Jana Cepelova in her opening round match at Istanbul. It is another in a string of tough losses for the world No. 59. Bouchard has reached as high as world No. 5 in her career. She looks to rebound from her recent loss.
Sharapova is at the 2017 Women’s Stuttgart Open. She remains in contention for the title. With top seeded Angelique Kerber falling in her opening match, the tournament is now wide open.
The Russian tennis player is a former champion at Stuttgart. She has three titles at the tournament. This year, she enters play using a wild card. The tournament is her first after serving a fifteen month suspension for her use of meldonium.

She is not alone in her thoughts on the matter. Several players have come out against both Sharapova’s return and the handling of it. While Sharapova’s situation in generating plenty of conversation, play continues at the Stuttgart Open. She enters her third match.
