Genie entered the 2013 HP Open as the fifth seeded player.
After winning her opening round match in straight sets, Bouchard fought hard to win a three-set quarterfinals victory over Barbora Strycova. In the semifinals, Genie took down Kurumi Nara of Japan, winning 6-2, 6-2. She advanced to her first ever WTA singles final.
Despite losing in the finals to Samantha Stosur, Eugenie Bouchard proved herself at the tournament. She took the first set off of Stosur but would eventually finish runner-up as Stosur took the finals match 3-6, 7-5, 6-2.
