Eugenie Bouchard at the 2014 Australian Open

In 2014, Bouchard reached career heights.

It all started at the Australian Open. The young Canadian tennis player reached the semifinals at Melbourne Park. Despite falling to then world No. 4 Li Na, Bouchard had a strong run at the tournament.

Defeating the likes of Tang Haochen, Virginie Razzano, Lauren Davis, and Casey Dellacqua, Genie came onto the scene in the Grand Slam circuit. She faced Ana Ivanovic in an epic quarterfinals meeting. Genie took the match in three-sets, winning 5-7, 7-5, 6-2.

While she would ultimately fall in the semifinals, the 2014 Australian Open was Eugenie Bouchard’s breakout performance. It started what would become the best year of her WTA career so far.
