Next up for Wozniacki is Jelena Ostapenko.
Her opponent is the current world No. 50 in women’s singles tennis. Wozniacki is the current world No. 11. As a former world No. 1, the Danish tennis star is on the verge of breaking back into the top 10 in women’s singles.
With top seeded Karolina Pliskova being upset in Prague on Monday, Wozniacki’s chances at the tournament have increased. She is now the highest seeded player remaining at the tournament. Interestingly enough, the world No. 11’s next opponent is undefeated against her.
Ostapenko is 2-0 against Wozniacki.
Both wins come within the past year. While the Danish tennis player has seen a resurgence on tour over the past year, Ostapenko has taken all four sets between the two. Still, however, Caroline Wozniacki must be considered the favorite.
The world No. 11 has already seen success in 2017. Having reached three WTA singles finals, Wozniacki is poised to win a title on the year. With 25 career WTA singles titles to her name, she brings both experience and momentum into the Prague Open. Stay tuned to see how she fares throughout the rest of the tournament.
