Andy Murray is among the early round winners at the 2017 Mutua Madrid Open. He is a former two-time champion at the tournament.
Andy Murray is the top seeded player at the Mutua Madrid Open.
The world No. 1 is a two-time winner at the tournament. In 2008, Murray won the tournament in its final year on a hardcourt surface. He would also win in 2015, defeating Rafael Nadal on clay.

Murray wins his opening round match. He defeats Marius Copil in straight sets.
The world No. 1 takes the match 6-4, 6-3.
Earlier in the year, Murray won a title at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships. Since then, he has seen both ups and downs in ATP action. Two weeks ago he fell to Dominic Thiem in the Barcelona semifinals. This week, Thiem is the eighth seeded player. He also wins his opening round match.
Defending champion Novak Djokovic is in action Wednesday against Nicolas Almagro. The Serbian tennis star recently split with his entire team. In 2016, he won Madrid be defeating Andy Murray in a three-set final.
