Zverev takes the championship match in straight sets. He defeats Djokovic, winning 6-4, 6-3.
In earning the title, the German professional tennis player becomes the youngest to win a Masters 1000 event since Djokovic did it at 19-years-old. Zverev is newly 20-years-old.
He shows no sign of letting up in 2017.
Throughout his run in Rome, Zverev defeated the likes of Viktor Troicki, Fabio Fognini, Milos Raonic, John Isner, and then Djokovic. He dropped just a single set throughout the week to Isner.
The impressive run in Rome gives Alexander Zverev his third title on the year. He also won earlier in Munich and Montpellier. The Italian Open win puts the 20-year-old Zverev into the ATP singles top 10. He will be a player to watch over the next several years as he represents a younger generation of top players in men’s singles tennis.
