Bouchard is a former champion at Nuremberg. She took home the title at the WTA tournament in 2014.
Despite struggles early on in 2017, the Canadian rebounded with a fantastic run at the Madrid Open. Seeing victories over Alize Cornet, Maria Sharapova, and then Angelique Kerber, Genie Bouchard appeared in fine form leading into the French Open.
On her social media, Bouchard displayed a picture of herself lying down while rehabbing and responding to fan mail.
The injury to Bouchard appears to be a torn ligament in her right ankle. With her participation in the French Open now doubtful, the field opens up even more for the likes of Simona Halep, Kerber, Caroline Wozniacki and others.
While Eugenie Bouchard may miss the upcoming Grand Slam, the injury does not appear to be too serious. Even if she must miss the major tournament, it seems as though she will be able to bounce back in the coming weeks.
