Now, it appears the Canadian tennis player will square off against Risa Ozaki of Japan. Their opening round match is Sunday.
Bouchard was riding high after a strong performance in Madrid. After defeating Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova, Genie also took down world No. 1 Angelique Kerber. Her run in Madrid ended in the quarterfinals, but she appears to be back in fine form.
The right ankle injury came unsuspectingly after Madrid.
Taking the last week to rehab and rest, Bouchard posted on social media implying that should be ready to go for the French Open.
Her post added no details about her current status but the Canadian seems set to play in Paris. Ozaki is the current world No. 72 in women’s singles tennis. Bouchard is the current world No. 56 and most likely would have risen higher had she played last week. Ozaki is 17-13 on the year.
Bouchard is 10-10 in her singles matches so far this year.
If Eugenie Bouchard can contain any lingering effects of her ankle injury, she will be a player to watch at Roland Garros. With world No. 1 Kerber out of sorts lately, the major tournament is up for grabs in women’s singles.
Stay tuned to see how Bouchard and others fare at the 2017 French Open.
