If either hopes to reach glory at the 2017 French Open, they must contend with the likes of Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Andy Murray among others.
Monfils reached the semifinals once before at Roland Garros. Gasquest has gone as far as the quarterfinals in men’s singles. He did so last year at the Grand Slam event.
In his most recent match this week, Gael Monfils defeated Thiago Monteiro of Brazil. He took the match in straight sets, winning 6-1, 6-4, 6-1. Gasquet’s most recent opponent was Victor Estrella Burgos. He too took his match in straight sets. Both are in fine form this year at Roland Garros.
While the field will not get any less competitive as they advance, both Monfils and Gasquet will take advantage of their fandoms at Roland Garros. Both French tennis players are veterans and also have plenty of big stage experience on tour. They are each 30-years-old.
Lucas Pouille is also in action on Friday at Roland Garros. With the up and down play of top players such as Murray this year, anything can happen. Stay tuned to see how the action unfolds at the 2017 French Open.
