Simona Halep is the third seeded player in women’s singles at the 2017 French Open. She advances into the round of 32 for a thrilling meeting.

Simona Halep prepares for a difficult meeting with Daria Kasatkina.

As the third seeded player at the French Open, Halep will be the favorite in the meeting between her and Kasatkina. The Russian Kasatkina is the 29th seeded player.

Kasatkina has not dropped a single set so far at the French Open. Neither has Halep.

The Romanian Halep won a title at Madrid earlier this year. She is the current world No. 4 in women’s singles tennis. With top seeded Angelique Kerber seeing an early upset, Halep has risen as a potential contender for the title at Roland Garros.

While she has never claimed a title at a Grand Slam, Halep did reach the finals at Roland Garros in 2014. Kasatkina, just 20-years-old, has now reached the third round at the French Open for the second consecutive year.

The two have met just once throughout their careers. In 2016, the world No. 4 took a match off of Kasatkina in straight sets at the Miami Open.

Looking at their career head-to-head singles matches, Halep is 1-0.

If Simona Halep can advance beyond the 29th seeded Kasatkina, her chances at a title will greatly improve. The two meet for their match on Saturday at Roland Garros.
