Marin Cilic is the current world No. 8 in men’s singles tennis. Here’s a look at his chances of winning the 2017 French Open.

Marin Cilic is into the quarterfinals at the 2017 French Open.

Up next for Cilic is third seeded player Stan Wawrinka. The Swiss Wawrinka is a former champion at Roland Garros, having won the men’s singles title in 2015.

While Cilic has never won the French Open, he is a Grand Slam singles champion.

In 2014, the Croatian tennis player defeated Kei Nishikori to win the US Open. It was Cilic’s first ever Grand Slam title. He is seeking another this year at Roland Garros.

This year has already been Cilic’s best run at the French Open. Throughout his matches at the major tournament, he has not dropped a singles set.

If there is a time for the world No. 8 to win the title at Roland Garros, it is now.

Other players still in action include defending champion Novak Djokovic and nine-time champion Rafael Nadal.

No matter who advances into the semifinals, the road to victory will not get any easier.

The 28-year-old Marin Cilic has just two wins over Wawrinka. The Swiss tennis star is 11-2 against Cilic. It is interesting to note, however, that one of Cilic’s wins came at a Grand Slam. He defeated Wawrinka at the 2010 Australian Open round of 32. The world No. 8 will need to continue his fantastic play this week, but he remains a contender for the title. Stay tuned to see how he fares in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
