Angelique Kerber is seeking her first title on the 2017 WTA Tour. After winning her opener, she aims to make that happen at Wimbledon.

Angelique Kerber finished runner-up at Wimbledon 2016.

The German tennis star fell to American Serena Williams in straight sets last year. Now, she is back and seeking her first ever title at the tournament.

While she has seen ups and downs so far on the 2017 WTA Tour, Kerber cruises to a straight set win in her Wimbledon opener.

Kerber defeats Irina Falconi 6-4, 6-4.

As the top seed at Wimbledon, the German tennis player has plenty to play for. Not only is she seeking to avenge her second place finish last year, but she is also aiming to defend her world No. 1 ranking.

Second seed Simona Halep also won her opener at Wimbledon 2017. The Romanian recently became the world No. 2 in women’s singles tennis.

Angelique Kerber will need to play her best tennis in the coming days. The field in women’s singles is highly competitive this year.

Also winning her opener at the major tournament was Garbine Muguruza. The Spanish-Venezuelan tennis star is a former French Open champion. She, similar to Kerber, has reached the finals at Wimbledon but is yet to take the title.

Stay tuned to see how Kerber and others fare at Wimbledon 2017.
