Riske is the current world No. 46 in women’s singles tennis. She reached as high as No. 36 earlier in the year. Now, she has a chance to go further than she ever has at Wimbledon.
The American tennis player is just 16-14 in singles matches this year on the WTA Tour. Her come from behind win over Mladenovic was beyond impressive.
After dropping the first set 2-6, Riske mounted her comeback, winning the final two sets 6-4, 6-4.
It is a disappointing end at the major tournament for Mladenovic. She has one title on the year and has posted a singles record of 36-14. There is, however, no doubt that the French tennis star will rebound from the loss.
As for Alison Riske, up next is fellow American Coco Vandeweghe. Her fellow countrywoman is the 24th seed at Wimbledon this year. Riske will continue to play the part of the underdog in their third round meeting, but look for her to carry this newfound momentum into the match. Vandeweghe is the current world No. 25 in women’s singles tennis.
