In what was a marathon second round match, Isner comes up on the short end of the stick. He falls in the five set match after a strong first round outing.
Sela takes the match, winning 6-7, 7-6, 5-7, 7-6, 6-3.
The Israeli professional tennis player is a veteran on the ATP World Tour. At 32-years-old, he is a peer of Isner. As it stands until today though, the American had won every single match between the two players.
Isner is the current world No. 21 in men’s singles tennis. While he was not a favorite for the title at Wimbledon, he remained among the top American contenders for glory.
At six feet ten inches tall, Isner towers over the five foot nine Sela. It was Sela, however, who found the energy needed to close out the final set. John Isner has experienced some problems in 2017. With a 15-13 record going into this week, the veteran tennis player must have been hoping to find something special at Wimbledon. That will have to wait until next time as the title at Wimbledon continues to elude him.

Seeing a second round win was French favorite Gael Monfils. He defeats British tennis player Kyle Edmund in their second round meeting Thursday. As for Sela, he moves into the third round for a meeting with thirteenth seed Grigor Dimitrov. His road to victory does not get any easier after the win over John Isner. He will need to repeat the display of heart that he put on in his impressive second round win.
