Andy Murray fends off Fabio Fognini in a tense four set match at Wimbledon. The top seeded Murray advances into the fourth round.

Andy Murray advances into the fourth round at Wimbledon 2017. The world No. 1 is the top seed at the Grand Slam as well as the defending champion.

Completing the four set victory over Fabio Fognini, the British tennis superstar can breathe a sigh of relief after the thrilling match. He is set to face Benoit Paire on Monday.

Murray wins the third round meeting in four sets. He takes the match 6-2 4-6 6-1 7-5.

Fognini made it a match in the fourth set and appeared on the verge of forcing a fifth. Murray, however, rose to the occasion and won an impressive five consecutive games to clinch victory. Coming into the match, the two players were 3-3 against one another.

The Italian Fognini made it to the third round at Wimbledon for the third time in his career. He is the current world No. 29 in men’s singles tennis.

Murray is not only fighting to defend his title this year, but also his world No. 1 ranking.

The British tennis star is in need of a deep run at the major tournament in order to solidify his place on top. His fourth round meeting with Frenchman Paire sees Murray as the clear favorite. He is 1-0 versus Paire throughout their careers. The French tennis player is the current world No. 46 in men’s singles.

2017 marks the furthest that Paire has ever advanced at Wimbledon.

Andy Murray squares off against the Frenchman on Monday morning. Also winning his third round match was French Open champion Rafael Nadal. He takes his match with Karen Khachanov in straight sets in order to advance. Up next for Nadal is sixteenth seed Gilles Muller.

Marin Cilic also seals his place in the fourth round. He faces Roberto Bautista Agut on Monday. Cilic, a former US Open champion, has reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon three times throughout his career. While Andy Murray remains the favorite at this year’s Grand Slam, several other top seeds have the potential to make a run for the title. Stay tuned to see how the action unfolds at Wimbledon 2017.
