It’s worth it to battle on court and come out the winner, especially if you’re the more experienced long-standing player. Tomas Berdych had this opportunity.

Seeded No. 11, Tomas Berdych has had his share of battles and injuries. He hangs in there, making history as he defeats the eighth seeded Dominic Thiem in a grueling five-setter to enter the quarterfinals at Wimbledon.

Berdych is the older and more knowledgeable player in this duo. The win gives him five Wimbledon quarterfinals in his career.

He has also elevated his game, becoming more proficient in the grass court play and has experience in playing 5 of the top 10 players this season.

Thiem has done well throughout the season, getting into the quarterfinals of over half the tournaments he’s entered. He also won the Rio Open title and defeated numerous top 10 players throughout the year.

But Court 3 was magic for Berdych as he showed his great skill on grass and in a few minutes lead 3-2 over the younger Thiem.

It was nearly a mere practice session for the Czech tennis player as he served out the first set and won 6-3 in just about a half hour.

It might have been a little embarrassing to Thiem losing set points, but vowing to himself to play better, he won point after point till he was leading 5-0. Berdych did manage to perform a few good strategies bring the second set to a tiebreaker, but it was Thiem who won the tiebreaker points 7-1 to be victorious at the 2nd set, levelling the sets 1-all.

Tomas Berdych seems to like the habit of coming out quick in the beginning of the set and did this well in the third, leading Thiem 3-0. He sealed set 3 with an ace, building up his confidence over this eighth seed ,who had unfortunately misfired his backhand, a point that he needed desperately. Everything was going well for Berdych, who had a great game with his serve being ‘on point’ as he was just 3 games from the victory line.

In no time at all, the Czech had served it well and was looking over the net to shake hands with a disappointed and exhausted Dominic Thiem.
