Andy Murray upset by American Sam Querrey at Wimbledon quarterfinals

Andy Murray sees his exit from Wimbledon 2017 in the quarterfinals. The defending champion is upset by American Sam Querrey.

Andy Murray is upset by Sam Querrey in the Wimbledon 2017 quarterfinals.

The defending champion faded in his match against the fresher looking American tennis player. Querrey closes out the victory, winning 3-6, 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-1, 6-1.

Querrey is the current world No. 28 in men’s singles tennis. He has one ATP singles title on the year.

The match turned in the American’s favor in the final two sets. After seeing brief instances of a spark in the third set tiebreak, Querrey came out strong in the fourth set. Murray appeared to stiffen up and could not keep up with the powerful serves and stylish shots of Querrey.

The semifinals is shaping up to be thrilling at Wimbledon this year.

Still to play on Wednesday are both Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. The exit of Andy Murray no doubt makes either Federer or Djokovic the favorite to win the title. Querrey, however, can carry his newfound momentum into his next match and play the underdog role.

The American is seeking his first ever Grand Slam title.

At 29-years-old, Querrey does have nine ATP singles titles to his name. He has reached as high as the world No. 17 ranking in men’s singles tennis. In the Wimbledon third round last week, he defeated twelfth seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Querrey ought to relish in his victory over the world No. 1. As for Murray, it was a good run at Wimbledon 2017. He will likely bounce back and be a strong contender at the US Open in the coming months.
