Karolina Pliskova is set to become the next WTA world No. 1 after the conclusion of Wimbledon. She takes the ranking after Angelique Kerber.

Karolina Pliskova is having a fantastic 2017 WTA Tour. The upcoming world No. 1 ranking is without a doubt well-deserved.

After dropping her second match at Wimbledon, the top ranking in women’s singles appeared almost out of reach. The later tournament results, however, proved to not alter her becoming the best in women’s tennis.

Currently, Pliskova is the world No. 3 in women’s singles tennis. The upcoming top ranking in the sport will be the first time she has achieved the honor.

A strong 2017 WTA Tour setup the Czech tennis star for the possibility of the top ranking. On the year, she already has a beyond impressive three WTA singles titles to her name. Her win-loss record is also 36-9 so far on the year.

Karolina Pliskova becomes the world No. 1 on Monday, July 17, 2017.

Former (or current for the next few days) world No. 1 Angelique Kerber failed to retain her ranking this week.

The German tennis superstar needed to advance further at Wimbledon. She fell to Garbine Muguruza in the fourth round at the major tournament. There is no doubt the Kerber will remain a top player in women’s singles, but her varied 2017 results have let others threaten the position.

Simona Halep was also in contention for the No. 1 ranking this week. She falls in the quarterfinals at Wimbledon to Johanna Konta. The loss results in the world No. 2 failing to topple either Kerber or now Pliskova. As the new world No. 1, Karolina Pliskova must prepare for play at the 2017 US Open. It’s interesting to note that she reached the finals just last year at the Grand Slam. Finishing runner-up, she fell in three sets to Kerber.

A win at the 2017 US Open could be the icing on the cake for Karolina Pliskova. Stay tuned to see how she fares throughout the rest of the 2017 WTA Tour.
