Muguruza defeats Rybarikova with ease. Winning in straight sets, she takes the semifinals meeting 6-1, 6-1. It is as though Muguruza knew she was already destined to reach the finals.
Throughout her time at Wimbledon 2017 so far, Muguruza has dropped just a single set. That one set came against top seeded Angelique Kerber. The fourteenth seed would go on to win her match with Kerber 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
As the current world No. 15 on the WTA Tour, Garbine Muguruza is poised to break into the top 10 in the second half of 2017.
Konta and Williams are also in action on Thursday. The British Konta is in her first ever semifinal match at Wimbledon. She defeated second seed and arguably the tournament favorite Simona Halep in order to advance. Williams, however, would be seeking her sixth title at the major tournament. She must be considered the favorite in their meeting due to her experience.
The 2017 WTA Tour is seeing some thrilling shakeups right now. Karolina Pliskova is set to take the world No. 1 position on Monday. A Muguruza win at Wimbledon would give her Grand Slam titles in back-to-back years and players such as Jelena Ostapenko are breaking onto the scene. Serena Williams’ absence for the second half of the year makes it possible for several top players to rise in the rankings. Muguruza is one of those players looking to became a top name in women’s singles tennis.
If she can continue her fantastic play this week, Muguruza will be a strong contender for the title. Stay tuned to see how Garbine Muguruza fares in her Wimbledon final.
