Jack Sock, the current world No. 17, rises one place in the rankings despite a second round loss at Wimbledon.
He falls to Sebastian Ofner in the round of 64. Since his hot early start to the year, Sock has remained in relatively the same place in the rankings since. He opened the year with wins in both Auckland and Delray Beach.
The 2017 US Open could create a new balance in American men’s singles tennis.
32-year-old John Isner has long been the top name in American men’s singles.
The recent play of Sock and now Querrey, however, open up the competition between the three. Isner saw a second round exit at Wimbledon. His tough five-set loss allowed his ranking to remain unchanged when play was finished at Wimbledon. He is the current world No. 21.

Sam Querrey toppled world No. 1 Andy Murray in the Wimbledon quarters.
His win over Murray showed him putting on a fantastic display of stylish tennis. The American was serving strong and kept the top seed at bay throughout the second half of the match. Querrey takes the meeting with Murray, winning 3-6, 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-1, 6-1. He would go on to lose to Marin Cilic in the semifinals, but he has reemerged as a top name in men’s singles.
The US Open could show us who has the hot hand in American men’s tennis. Sam Querrey’s best finish at the major tournament came in 2015 when he reached the semifinals. Isner saw the quarterfinals in 2011 and Sock reached the fourth round last year. All three players are in a position to make deep runs at the US Open.
The final months of 2017 will show us if Querrey has what it takes to be the best in American men’s singles tennis. Stay tuned to see how the action unfolds on the ATP World Tour.
