As a five-time US Open champion, Federer will always be a contender at the tournament. If he is on the court, he has a chance. This year, however, he may very well be the favorite.
Earning his 19th career Grand Slam, the Swiss tennis star is doing the impossible. He kicked off his 2017 ATP World Tour with a win at Melbourne Park. The French Open went to the ‘King of Clay’ Rafael Nadal and then Wimbledon went back to Federer.
Roger Federer did not drop a single set in his run at Wimbledon.
The veteran Federer is well aware of the fact that these two Grand Slams were somewhat unexpected. At his age, he has seen lingering injuries over recent years. Until this year, his most recent Grand Slam title came in 2012.

Federer has seen a singles record of 31-2 on the year. That goes along with five ATP singles titles, including the Grand Slam wins at the Australian Open and Wimbledon.
Roger Federer must be considered a favorite at the 2017 US Open. The shortened schedule has been strategic for the veteran great. His ability to rest, recover, and prepare for each tournament has given him the edge that he needs at his age. If he can continue his routine through the end of the year, he could very well be setting himself up to be the top player in men’s tennis yet again. As it stands right now, he is the world No. 3 and in second in the Race to London. Stay tuned to see how Roger Federer fares throughout the rest of the 2017 ATP World Tour.
