John Isner reaches Hall of Fame Tennis Championships semifinals

John Isner advances into the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships semifinals with a win on Friday. The American wins his quarterfinals match in straight sets.
John Isner is the top seed at the 2017 Hall of Fame Tennis Championships. He cruises into the semifinals of the ATP tournament with a win on Friday.
The American defeats his fellow countryman Dennis Novikov in straight sets.

Isner takes the quarterfinals meeting 6-4, 6-4. He also won his previous match against Sam Groth in straight sets. Now, he is one step closer to the finals.
In both 2011 and 2012, Isner took home the title at Newport. He has a chance at his third singles title if he can win this year. In 2008, the American also earned a doubles title at the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships.
Defending champion Ivo Karlovic was upset in his quarterfinals match.
With No. 2 Karlovic out of the way, the path to a title is even more open for John Isner.
At Wimbledon this year, the American saw an unexpected second round exit. He had previously reached the third round in each of the prior three years at Wimbledon.
The 32-year-old American tennis player is on the verge of the ATP World Tour top twenty. Currently, he sits in the world No. 21 ranking. With a singles record of 16-14 on the year so far, Isner is fortunate to have remained around the top twenty. He has a chance to rebound at Newport and earn his first ATP singles title of the year. A win at the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships would also provide some much needed momentum for the weeks leading into the US Open.
Seeking his first ever Grand Slam singles title, John Isner will need to play some of his best tennis in the coming weeks. He reached the quarterfinals of the US Open in 2011. Stay tuned to see if the American can take home a title this week at the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships.
