Just last year, the Dutch tennis player finished runner-up at the tournament. Now, she successfully returns to avenge her loss. The win at Ladies Championship Gstaad, also known as the Swiss Open, is her second WTA title on the year.

Earlier in the season, Bertens took home a title in Nurnberg. She is the current world No. 35 in women’s singles tennis and will likely rise in the rankings after this win.

Coming into the finals meeting with Kontaveit, Bertens had not dropped a single set at the Swiss Open.

While Kontaveit put up a strong fight, winning the second set in fine form, her effort was not enough against Bertens. On the year, Kontaveit is the current world No. 32 in women’s singles tennis. At just 21-years-old, she has shown herself to be a rising star in the sport. While the finals loss is a disappointment for the Estonian professional tennis player, she is without a doubt a player to watch in the coming weeks.

Kiki Bertens looks ahead to the 2017 US Open after winning her second WTA title this year. Previously, the 25-year-old Bertens has reached the second round of the US Open twice. With more experience under her belt now, Bertens can make a deeper run at the Grand Slam this year.

The win at the Swiss Open should move Kiki Bertens around nine places in the singles rankings. Along with the singles title, Bertens will also take home the doubles championship with partner Johanna Larsson. Stay tuned to see how the Dutch tennis star fares throughout the rest of the 2017 WTA Tour.
